Frank Vatrano, Anaheim Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks are getting some serious interest in their winger who is having a career year. Frank Vatrano started the season very hot and it has been tough to slow him down. He has another year left on his deal, but the logical move for a team that doesn’t project to be in the playoff hunt next season again is to move their top asset while he is at his peak.

Vatrano already has a career high in goals (27), assists (19), and points (46) in just 59 games. He can be used in all situations as he is one of the best shot-blocking forwards and has a lethal shot. The winger will play physical hockey and he has more of a shoot-first mentality. Vatrano has logged a lot of minutes this season for the Ducks and with another year left on his deal at $3.65 million AAV, is at a great price to contribute to a contender with his confidence so high. He has been linked to two teams by David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Maple Leafs are just coming off a move to acquire what may very well be their only defensive addition at the trade deadline. They still have their first-round pick this season and are looking for some more scoring help as well as playoff performers. Vatrano last played in the playoffs in 2021-22 with the New York Rangers and was very effective.

He scored five goals and recorded 13 points in 20 games, but more than that, he proved to be great all around, recording 41 shots, 21 blocks, and 40 hits while playing in the middle-six. This is exactly where he can play in Toronto and the team would have him for another year at a good price when the salary cap may get tricky for them. He would give the Maple Leafs a better shot at winning this season and be a major help next season.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes are still looking for the right piece to add up front. There are many unknowns heading into the offseason, but the team also has to think about winning this season. Carolina continues to be very good, but just can’t break through in the playoffs. They have the depth this season, but may lack some next season. What a big need for them is some extra scoring and Vatrano would be able to provide that from the wing. His hard style of play would fit in very well with the Hurricanes under Rod Brind’Amour.
