3 Philadelphia Flyers Offseason Trade Candidates

Kevin Hayes, Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers appear to be set to alter their team quite a bit in the offseason as a lot of players should be available for trade, including some of the top names. As the best and most likely course of action for the Flyers is to rebuild for a few years, here’s a look at some players that may very well be moved to get them really going in the right direction.

Carter Hart

If the Flyers intend on rebuilding, it’s counterproductive to hold onto a great young goalie if he’s just going to likely be gone by the time the team is ready to compete again. Carter Hart, the Flyers’ starter, had a strong season for what challenges were put in front of him. He won the team a number of games and is under contract for one more season at under $4 million AAV, which at that time he will become a RFA.

Seeing as the Flyers are looking to trade their better players and Hart will fetch a great return, it seems like the logical move unless they can lock him up long-term. Philadelphia has Felix Sandstrom, Ivan Fedotov, and Samuel Ersson to choose between going forward, all of whom have shown promise.

Kevin Hayes

Though Kevin Hayes likes it in Philadelphia, his contract doesn’t match up with the plans of the team and his personality doesn’t mesh with head coach John Tortorella. Hayes, who is 30 years old, is under contract for four more years at $7.14 million AAV and his contract just switched from a full no-move clause to a modified no-move clause, meaning it will be easier to move him now.

Top-six centers are pretty rare at this time, so teams looking for help in that area could look to the Flyers and Hayes to fill their needs. He is good at both ends of the ice, a great locker room guy, and finished second on the Flyers in points. He may be a little overpaid, but Philadelphia is also in a position to retain some of his cap.

Tony DeAngelo

Tony DeAngelo is another player that doesn’t really mesh well with the Flyers’ head coach and with one year left on his deal with no trade protection, would be a sought-after asset for teams in need of scoring from the back-end. Despite whatever issues he has had off the ice or with teammates, there was nothing to report this season and he remains as a consistent producer on the blue line.

DeAngelo’s cap hit isn’t terrible at $5 million AAV considering he scored 11 goals and 42 points in 70 games this season. The Flyers have young players trying to earn spots on the team, so trading him will help the team in multiple ways. He’s also been benched and scratched this season while putting up the numbers he has. A trade just makes sense.
